Most Kenyan avocado leaves the country as raw fruit and comes back as somebody else's finished product. We wanted to change one link in that.
Kenya grows an enormous amount of avocado. Very little of it leaves the country as anything other than raw fruit.
The value is added elsewhere — pressed, refined, bottled and branded somewhere else, then sold back into the region at several times the price. Every step in that chain that happens outside Kenya is a job that happens outside Kenya.
